Rupert & Rothschild "Baroness Nadine" Chardonnay '22

Rupert & Rothschild was founded by the late Anton Rupert and late Baron Edmond de Rothschild. Their magnificent winery is located in a historic farm that dates back to the 17th century, between the Paarl and Franschhoek regions. While Bordeaux varietals are the focus of this winery, their one white is produced from Chardonnay.

“Baroness Nadine” is named after the widow of Baron Edmond, and is modeled after the great whites of Burgundy. Baroness Nadine Chardonnay is whole cluster pressed, with only the free-run juice used for the wine. Fermentation takes place in a various vessels including concrete, stainless steel and 300 liter French oak. Aging is done in those same sized 300 liter oak barrels for 10 months, with only one-third new and the rest used.

The nose is beautiful, with notes of nectarine, lemon curd, and almond. Crisp up front, then showing medium weight on the palate, finished with notes of toasted macadamia nuts and stone fruit. Enjoy these with seared sea scallops or even on your next fried chicken night.
